Despite the Limits
My name is Scot Storey, and I created this podcast, “Despite the Limits” to provide short conversations aimed at helping leaders grow professionally and personally. As a lifelong student of human connection, leadership, and communication, I am passionate about shaping the growth and capabilities of leaders. My personal journey in leadership development has been shaped by a career of service in the US Army’s Special Operations Forces leading numerous teams from just a few operators to organizations several thousand people strong, with the Army’s Rangers, Green Berets and Civil Affairs units in some the world’s most remote and arduous conditions. I believe in the power of a good story to shape personal connections and help people reach their full potential. That is what this podcast is all about.

Despite the Limits
Celebrate the Small Wins
Episode 22 is the final installment in a series of seven episodes exploring practical steps you can take when you feel stuck or simply cannot seem to get started moving toward your dream.
In this episode we talk about the importance of celebrating the small incremental victories along the way to our ultimate goal. It is easy to get so focused on the long goal that we forget to reflect about where we have been.
I also briefly talk about preventing our celebration of small wins from becoming an attitude of complacency.
For review, the six steps are:
1.Overcome Limiting Beliefs
2.Set goals
3.Develop a plan
4.Build a coalition for support
5.Learn from failure
6.Celebrate the small wins

I talked a little about my heart attack challenge and my current fitness goals in a few of the episodes through the series. Here are links to them:

In doing some research for this episode, I found this article, “The Dark Side of Celebrating Small Wins” by Temiloluwa Adedeji on LinkedIn. https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/dark-side-celebrating-small-wins-temiloluwa-adedeji/
I also mention Episode 6 – “Are we making progress – Thoughts on Veteran Suicide” in my discussion. I have committed to revisiting this topic and will likely do so in 2025 once the Veterans Administration publishes its 2024 Annual Suicide Prevention Report.
